Testosterone is a hormone that is primarily associated with men. However, a new meta-analysis has now come to the conclusion that testosterone can also be recommended for women. It can make a significant contribution to your own well-being, especially in the post-menopausal period.
The results of the meta-analysis make it clear that the consumption of testosterone in women as well as in men has an influence on sexuality.
Testosterone doesn’t just affect sexual wellbeing
First and foremost, testosterone has an impact on the sexual well-being of women after the menopause and increases lust. At the same time, however, it also increases the pleasure factor and has a holistic, positive effect on the body. It can have positive effects on the metabolism and also improves mood, muscle strength, reduce fat gain and cognitive abilities in women.
For the current study, the scientists around Dr. Susan Davis were involved, specifically 46 reports from 8,480 participants from 36 different studies. The participants were between 18 and 75 years old, but the majority had already passed through menopause. In the middle of life, one in three complained of a significantly lower level of pleasure. This was usually triggered by stress.
The administration of testosterone provided more pleasure, especially in the second step. First and foremost, it had an extremely positive effect on the woman’s self-image. According to this, women feel more comfortable in their bodies again and thus have more desire for sex. The use of testosterone can of course be associated with side effects in women. This sometimes led to hair loss and acne, the extent of which, however, was not serious. It is important that the testosterone is taken orally if possible, because if it is not taken orally, there is no positive influence on the lipid profile.
Testosterone available as a dietary supplement
Women who want to benefit from the positive effects can, for example, use a booster. The testosterone boosters are mainly composed of herbal substances and are based on different ingredients. As a dietary supplement, it is mostly available in the form of capsules and tablets, so that there is hardly anything in the way of safe dosing.
“The effect of testosterone boosters like testogen in women is comparable to that in men. This means that men also benefit from increased well-being at this point. Here, the testosterone booster also has an influence on muscle growth and can help stimulate your own production of the hormone again ”.
So far, there is a lack of testosterone preparations for women worldwide. The authors of the study emphasize that women are dependent on individual preparations. Only then is a therapy tailored to their needs possible. Internationally valid guidelines could be of assistance here. So far, these are missing, as are clear formulations and recommendations for testosterone administration in women.
